Description

The old Vico Chiuso building in Ugento is a construction dating back to different periods starting from the late 1800s. The main entrance is from the historic center, through an enclosed courtyard, accessible from the side of the church of San Biagio. The entrance portal is majestic and is reached through an irregular passageway about 3 m wide, made from ancient entrances, enriched with ornamental plants. The entrance hides a stairwell incredibly conceived as a journey into the historical architecture of the place, as if the builders had made a miniature exercise in style: the stairs are interrupted by three star-vaulted landings, Each ramp continues with a barrel vault of relevant workmanship, all without plaster and with exposed stone. It must have been an annex of the neighboring church, given the workmanship and the presence of frescoed corners, still intact and all to be discovered. At the end of the stairs there is access to a small terrace from which one can see the entire old town and the sea, only 6 km away. The first barrel room of about 25 sq m has an original fireplace and is connected to a half barrel room of about 10 sq m, with a second fireplace and habitable terrace. The next room, which can be connected internally to the first, originally had a wooden roof and irmici. It is currently without the roof and the dimensions are about 30 sq m. Inside there is a monumental fireplace. There are two other terraces and a hallway with an archway positioned so high that it is visible even from a distance. The property is completed by a small room on the ground floor with a barrel vault of almost 10 square meters and connectable to the entrance stairs. Finally, a 20-sqm barrel-vaulted warehouse that has an entrance from the opposite front. The property is uninhabited, lacking fixtures and fittings and all in need of renovation.

Location: Ugento, Apulia

Ugento is a picturesque town located in the heart of Salento, Puglia. Known for its ancient roots and historic charm, it offers a perfect mix of culture, tradition and natural beauty. The historic center, characterized by narrow alleys and white stone houses, is dominated by the majestic Ugento Castle and the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, examples of Baroque architecture. Ugento is also famous for its breathtaking beaches, such as those of Torre San Giovanni, with golden sand and crystal clear waters overlooking the Ionian Sea. The territory of the municipality has an enormous extension and goes from the sandy and rocky coast to the countryside with productions of oil and local products exported all over the world. It is a city of art thanks in part to its outstanding archaeological museum and a blue flag for its clean sea. Ugento's real estate market is growing, attracting investors interested in vacation homes and charming properties, historic palaces and farms, thanks to prices that are still competitive with other resorts in the region. Rich in tradition and culture, Ugento is an ideal destination both for those seeking an authentic experience in the heart of Puglia and for those who want to invest in a place with high tourism potential. Its location is strategic exactly halfway between Santa Maria di Leuca and Gallipoli.
