Its name has ancient origins dating back to the year 1,000 when the castle was built supported by fortified walls called Mons Fortis. The historic core of Monforte is arranged in a fan shape and today pulsates with renewed life thanks to recent restorations that have affected many aristocratic and bourgeois palazzos now housing splendid private residences as well as restaurants and accommodation facilities that are now landmarks and a must for international food and wine tourism. Tourism that finds gratification not only in the world-class food and wine but also in the surrounding landscape that offers wonderment as one admires the green sea of the Langhe that can be admired as far as the eye can see from the heights of Monforte and can be experienced to the full in the trekking and cycling routes. Monforte is also a very lively municipality from the point of view of kermesse, which is expressed in the suggestive Auditorium Herszowsky, an amphitheatre with perfect acoustics and carved out of a natural slope in the centre of town, inaugurated by the pianist of the same name in 1986, where important artistic and musical events are hosted. Monforte is only 20 minutes away from Alba, which is the capital of the Langhe and where you can take the motorway that leads to Milan in about an hour and a half, Turin is just over an hour away, and it is about 20 minutes from Cherasco, where the exit for the Turin-Savona motorway is located.
