Description

Once belonging to a religious foundation, this charming estate is located in the heart of the Langa of the Bormida Valley, in Bistagno, surrounded by pristine nature that exudes tranquility and timeless charm. A cypress-lined avenue leads to a 16th-century farmhouse, meticulously renovated to preserve its original features while making it modern and functional. The farmhouse, consisting of three interconnected but independent living units, offers spacious areas combining elegance and comfort. On the ground floor, the living entrance opens to rooms with cross-vaulted ceilings and stone floors, while the first floor hosts an independent guest apartment and a master area with a bright living room, a large fireplace, a kitchen, a bedroom with a bathroom, and a walk-in closet, connected to the ground floor by an elevator. The historic section of the house, once a convent, spans three levels and includes frescoed rooms with fireplaces, offering endless possibilities for customization. The restoration works introduced modern systems, high-quality wooden fixtures, and an insulated roof. The property is completed by three hectares of DOC vineyard, an independent rural building with a panoramic terrace, and a natural spring flowing into the atmospheric stone cellars. A residence of rare beauty, where past and present merge in perfect harmony.

Location: Bistagno, Piedmont

Center in Alto Monferrato, downstream from the confluence of the Bormida di Millesimo and the Bormida di Spigno. In 1253 the bishop of Acqui fortified the small village there by unifying it with two other villages into a triangular fortified system. It later became the possession of the Marquises of Monferrato, who entrusted it first to the Guasco family, then to the Della Rovere family of Casale. It passed to the Savoys in 1706, after the Spanish demolished its fortifications. Of the 13th-century castle, which stood on the ramparts of the Bormida, a trapezoidal tower remains; the baroque parish church of St. John the Baptist, flanked by a Romanesque-Gothic bell tower, preserves a marble group by the verist sculptor Giulio Monteverde (1837-1917), a native of Bistagno, to whom a gipsoteca opened in 1987 is dedicated. Also baroque is the sumptuous oratory of Santa Maria della Pieve, with a circular plan, founded in 1719, in whose design the architect A. B. Vittone. The village has all essential services (pharmacy, supermarkets, post office, etc.) and is only 10 minutes from the town of Acqui Terme .
