428.73 kWh/m²aCunardo is an Italian municipality of 2,917 inhabitants in the province of Varese, Lombardy, located between four pre-Alpine valleys: Valganna, Valmarchirolo, Valcuvia and Valtravaglia. The municipality has been known, since ancient times, for its pottery production. The town lies at the foot of two mountains, Monte Castelvecchio and Monte Penegra. Monte Castelvecchio takes its name from the fortress built by the Lombards in 700 AD that dominated the Valcuvia and Valmarchirolo from above. Cunardo is famous for its cross-country skiing track and its ski club, which despite the altitude, manages to produce athletes of national level, thanks also to artificial snow and volunteers. Every year, in summer, the palio dei rioni is held, where the 6 districts compete in various games: Pozzo/Castelvecchio, Borgo, Ponte Nativo, Filanda, Sasso Morone and Raglio. This event involves most of the town during the three-week event. The centre of the provincial capital, Varese, and the motorway to Milan are 16 km away, while Malpensa international airport is 60 km away. The Swiss border can be easily reached by travelling 9 km. The coast of Lake Maggiore is 12 km away.
