Description
Built in the urban center of Bondeno, Villa Sani-Poluzzi is a precious jewel of the 18th century, although historical documents and the building's evolutionary phases point to older periods. Enriched with wall paintings, frescoes, secret passages, period fixtures, and its own aura of mysterious charm, this noble work consists of a main square-based building and is surrounded, around the enclosed courtyard, by every accessory. The annexes include two other residential units of 91 sq m and 37 sq m respectively, three garage spaces of 250 sq m, and two warehouses of a further 400 sq m. The courtyard and garden area measure approximately 2,500 sq m in total. The main building comprises 800 sq m, much of which is in good condition and has already undergone recent modernization in 2010, while the second attic floor requires extensive cleaning and new systems. Developed on three levels, each has its own character: the ground floor has a rustic and ancient tone. This floor was intended for activities carried out by the service personnel. The first floor, also accessible from the north front via a masonry bridge surmounted by statues, is the noblest part. The attic floor lends itself to conservative restoration that enhances its simple aspects and is distinguished by a very free planimetry and considerable heights. The real gem is the staircase, frescoed several times, as revealed by the stratigraphy of the decorations, to be restored to its original splendor or, simply, to be admired even in its signs of time.
