Description

The building was built between the 1800s and early 1900s and originally functioned as a wine factory. It features a large wine warehouse on the ground floor, a large courtyard at the back, and a residence on the second floor. The facade of the building reflects the architecture of the period, with artistic details and elaborate decoration. The warehouse on the ground floor features nine star vaults at a height of 6 meters, giving this evocative room with many stories to tell a sense of infinity gives a feeling of endlessness. There are still numerous perimeter and underground tanks, which served to store wine. The floor is paved in stone, which also continues into the outdoor courtyard, perfectly tying the two rooms together. The property has two entrances, one from the main road to the warehouse and one from Via Mazzini, from which the courtyard is accessed. The second floor also has access from the two streets, and climbing the stairs leads to the residential area of the building. Here, the interior is characterized by large halls with vaulted ceilings. The dwelling consists of two independent rooms and three other communicating rooms. In one of the communicating rooms we find a large open fireplace decorating the room. Two bathrooms and two storage rooms complete the property. All rooms have vaulted ceilings and original cement floors of the period. A covered veranda overlooks the main street and a large uncovered terrace instead overlooks the inner courtyard. This historic building is a testament to Italian culture. The combination of a large wine storage room and a beautiful residence reflects the Italian people's passion for wine and the pleasure of life.

Location: Squinzano, Apulia

Squinzano is a municipality located between Brindisi and Lecce, 25 km from Brindisi airport and 14 km from Lecce. It is part of the Valle della Cupa, that is, that portion of the Salento plain, around the capital of Lecce, characterized by a large karst depression. It has about 14,000 inhabitants. Also belonging to the municipality is the northern part of the marina of Casalabate, about 10 km away, on the Adriatic Coast. Instead, traveling about 20 km westward, one reaches the Ionian coast. Squinzano's landscape is characterized by hills and fields of olive trees, which contribute to the area's natural beauty. The Mediterranean climate favors the cultivation of grapes, and Squinzano's vineyards produce high quality wines. In particular, the area is known for the production of Squinzano DOC, which is highly regarded both nationally and internationally. In addition to wine production, Squinzano also has an interesting cultural heritage. The town's historic center still retains its ancient walls and some historic churches, which attract tourists and visitors. Between 1869 and 1891 the railway station was built, which, placed in an intermediate position between Brindisi and Lecce, transformed the town into the center of the activities of the whole area. Even today the town is served by its own railway station on the Adriatic line of the State Railways. It is currently active for passenger service on the Bari-Lecce line. Squinzano is an ideal destination for wine lovers and those wishing to explore the culture and history of the Salento area. Its quality wine production and the charm of its landscape make it a must-visit place. It is best visited on foot, to discover its beautiful courtyards, facades of noble palaces and many churches.
