In progressLocated in northern Salento, in a central position between the Ionian and Adriatic Seas, and 8 km from Lecce, the municipality of Arnesano emerges as a place of geographical significance. The place name "Arnesano" originates from "Arna," whose meaning evokes concavity, a peculiar characteristic of the morphology of the territory. The municipality also embraces the town of Riesci, located 600 meters to the west. Belonging to the Lecce hinterland, it is geographically located in the "Valle della Cupa," a fascinating area known for its characteristics, often chosen by nobility as a place of residence or vacation. The territory of Arnesano boasts a history that sinks into ancient times, with the presence of a small urban settlement testified by the discovery of a late Neolithic burial site, dated 2400 BC, known as "Idoletto." After the Roman and Byzantine periods, Norman rule contributedsignificantly to the economic and demographicgrowth of the region. Notable monuments and places of interest include the Mother Church dedicated to Maria Santissima Assunta, the Bernardini Nursery Chapel, and the Church of St. Anthony of Padua, dating from 1676. Among the civil architecture, the Marchesale Palace and the Guarini Palace, commissioned by the nobleman Selvaggio Guarini, are worth mentioning. The surrounding countryside, with its farms, retains the centuries-old charm that has accompanied them since ancient times, offering a vast wealth of landscape that testifies to the history and intrinsic beauty of this location in northern Salento.
