Asolo, dubbed by an Italian poet as "the city of a hundred horizons," is a gem nestled in the Hills of Prosecco Superiore, renowned for its character as a privileged residence and cultural tradition, which has enchanted literati, artists, and poets, both Italian and foreign. Among these are the English poet Robert Browning, the Divine of theater Eleonora Duse, the composer Gian Francesco Malipiero, the English writer and traveler Freya Stark, and the actor Henry James. With its flowery corners, low arcades hiding precious artisan shops, ancient taverns, and unique architectural details, Asolo is highly romantic and waiting to be discovered. The symbol of Asolo is the Rocca, built between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, an exceptional panoramic viewpoint from which to admire the Asolo Hills and the surrounding villas; on clear days, you can even see the Dolomites. Another iconic building in Asolo is the Castle, known as the Castle of the Queen Cornaro. Older than the Rocca (built about two centuries earlier), it is famous for hosting Caterina Cornaro between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, who was the queen of Cyprus and Lady of Asolo. Over the centuries, it underwent various fates, and in the nineteenth century, it ended up being used as a prison; since 1932, it has been home to the Asolo theater, dedicated to Eleonora Duse; therefore, it is only possible to see the interior of the castle during performances and events. One attraction not to be missed in Asolo is the Garden of Villa Freya, the sumptuous residence of the adventurous English writer considered one of the founders of modern travel literature.
