Description
Every first Sunday of the month, in the morning, the Villa of Nardò comes alive with objects from the past and colors because the antiques market takes place here. And it is just a few steps from the Villa, or rather from the lovely tree-lined avenue leading to the historic center of Nardò, on a quiet street, that this renovated property, dating from the 1930s, is located. One notices the newly redone facade and, from the street, a small wooden door opens onto a rather steep staircase that leads to the second floor where cozy and bright rooms with magnificent star vaults up to almost 5 meters high and barrel vaults up to more than 3 meters follow each other on floors with authentic “cementine”, Lecce stone, travertine and grit tiles. A delightful little balcony with original 1930s railings overlooks the street, and the vaults catch light well into the evening. A white staircase descends to the garden, with a well and a very useful utility room and an understair. From the second floor, a Lecce stone staircase ascends to the gallery and leads to the terraces, which are beautiful, wavy, with domes and planes, and the gaze reaches the bell towers of the historic center.
