Piazza San Domenico, located in the Santo Stefano district, lies in front of and along the northern side of the Church of San Domenico. It is connected to Via Garibaldi, Via Garofalo, Via Rolandino, and Vicolo dell’Orto. The square’s name originates from the convent and Church of San Domenico. It was referred to as "Sagrato di San Domenico" and "Piazza di San Domenico" by various authors. During the 1873-78 toponymic reform, it was briefly renamed "Piazza Galileo," but its original name was restored in 1934. On the northern side was Via delle Vigne, now a private passage, which once led to the vineyards in the area (Guidicini). The Church of San Nicolò delle Vigne, dating back to the 12th century, originally stood on the land where the San Domenico complex was later built.
