Description

This magnificent estate, dating back to the late nineteenth century, is located in Chiaramonte Gulfi, an area known for its lush olive groves. Surrounded by hills and gentle slopes, the plain is the cradle of the "tonda Iblea", an internationally recognized high quality olive variety, protected by the DOP Monti Iblei consortium. The property develops like a small village around a suggestive beam paved in white stone, which connects the various "dammusi", the ancient kitchens, the large warehouses with stone vaults, the residential unit and a small private church. The rooms maintain the original structure, divided according to the ancient functions. On the ground floor, a museum displays ancient olive oil production tools, including a turning mill with large cylindrical stones (molazze) and old iron presses from the "old Trappitu". Outside, an annex with direct access to the olive grove and a separate village with three typical stables and a courtyard, suitable to become a further annex.

Location: Chiaramonte Gulfi, Sicily

The property is located in the Ragusa area, specifically in the countryside of Chiaramonte, a beautiful town in the Iblean hinterland. Ragusa, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, boasts the unique privilege of having within its territory not only renowned Baroque historic centers such as Scicli and Modica, but also lesser-known yet equally beautiful towns like Chiaramonte. Located north of Ragusa, Chiaramonte has long been called the "balcony of Sicily" for its panoramic position, offering views that stretch from Mount Etna to the sea. Of ancient origin, the town has experienced all the various dominations that invaded Sicily, with alternating fortunes. Its original name was Akrillai, later becoming Gulfi, until Manfredi Chiaramonte, Count of Modica, gave it his family's name in 1296. The town, built with a medieval layout, was surrounded by walls and had a castle. After the devastating earthquake of 1693, which almost completely destroyed it, the town was rebuilt on the same site. In the 19th century, it was renamed Chiaramonte Gulfi. Today, it is a charming town perched on a hilltop, full of churches with Baroque façades. Chiaramonte is the heart of olive oil production, derived from the ancient variety "tonda iblea," which is of exceptional quality and has won several international awards, protected by the DOP Monti Iblei consortium. The countryside is dotted with large and small farmhouses, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. This is a place that, once discovered, you never want to leave, as evidenced by the many foreigners who have purchased their second home here after experiencing the sweetness of life in Chiaramonte.
