Via d’Azeglio is the "city's parlor" of Bologna. The ancient name of the road, from Porta San Mamolo to the intersection between via de' Carbonesi and Luigi Farini, was San Mamolo, while the other part towards Piazza Maggiore was called “via dicta Platea Major”, or simply “Platea Major”. There are in fact two different ways of living via d'Azeglio: preferring the pedestrian part, that is the fashionable meeting point of the city or choosing the monumental one, where you can breathe the medieval splendor with Casa Legnani Pizzardi, Palazzo Bevilacqua, Palazzo Marsili, with the outside balcony with astronomical observatory, the former Hospital of the Innocents and the ancient early Christian church of San Procolo, first cradle of the University.
