Alcamo: Location and surroundings of this property

Alcamo was chosen by the Elymians, Romans and Byzantines for its strategic position on the western access routes to Palermo, and with the Arabs (14th century) it earned the name Alqamah and the rank of casale around the castle. With its barycentric position in relation to the territory, it is about 50 km from both Palermo and Trapani, and is very close to the main tourist attractions of western Sicily, Scopello, the Zingaro Nature Reserve, Castellammare del golfo and San Vito Lo Capo. It rises at the foot of Mount Bonifato and has been named wine city and city of art. Alcamo with its castle of the Counts of Modica, its historical centre rich in palaces, churches and works of art is one of the most renowned centres of the province for its history, culture and traditions. Its position on the slopes of Mount Bonifato, considered the 'rooftop of western Sicily' on which the Bosco d'Alcamo Reserve is located, also makes it one of the most evocative municipalities for its enchanting views suspended between the sky and the sea with the stunning backdrop of the Gulf of Castellammare.
