Vignale Monferrato, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage territories, is a small village rich in history. It was once a Roman military outpost guarding the road from Alessandria to Asti, and only in the Middle Ages did the village take shape around the castle of the Aleramici family, with the name "Vinealis" referring to its significant wine production. In 1703, the village, along with the entire Monferrato region, came under the rule of the House of Savoy and followed its history until the unification of Italy. Notable is the Callori Palace, an imposing building constructed in the 18th century in the style of noble residences by the Callori family, one of the ancient noble families of Asti. In the lower part of Vignale, near Porta Urbica, stands the Church of the Blessed Virgin of Sorrows, along with the adjacent convent of the Servants of Mary. The village is well connected to major highways and is close to the towns of Casale Monferrato and Alessandria. Nearby is the prestigious Margara Golf Club, which, with its two 18-hole championship courses, ranks among the top golf circuits in Piedmont.
