The area was first inhabited in 1902 by some farmer families who in 1967 built the church of Agios Eleftherios from where it took its name. In 1920, it had 103 inhabitants and another 500 were added to them from the Asia Minor Catastrophe. The steam train which passed through the area without astopping station contributed to the economic development of the area. In the following years, the area became a popular holiday center of the Athenians until March 3, 1925. At that time, the area was officially recognized as a community of the Municipality of Athens. The location of the area in nature, in the passage between Attikoboiotia contributed to its being declared a popular resort and residential center. Until 1960, the whole area did not have a single apartment building, only detached houses, many of which survive to this day and give an Old Athenian type to the area. Agios Eleftherios, due to the healthy climate, the beautiful environment, the abundant waters, and the relatively short distance from the center of Athens easily accessible by electricity, was a privileged place and a place of rest for the rich and noble. Beans, olives, and potatoes used to be famous products of Agios Eleftherios. Very close to the National Road and the junction between northern suburbs and center. Neighborhood with local character and urban mood with everything every house needs every day.It has a dynamic presence in the restaurant area with taverns, ouzeri, and coffee shops.
