Gerakas is a municipal community of the Municipality of Pallini of the Regional Unit of Eastern Attica of the Attica Region and it belongs to the Northeastern end of the Urban Complex of Athens. It is considered as a Northern Suburb of Athens. The population of the area is about 30,000, the area surface is 11 km2 and the people density is at 2,722 inhabitants per m2 according to the 2011 census. Well-known districts of Gerakas are Gargittos, Stavros and Balana. It borders Agia Paraskevi, Penteli and Chalandri.
It is a suburb that has been growing rapidly in recent years. With the crossing of Attiki Odos and the metro, it has changed drastically as an urban area of Athens as its infrastructure has been continuously upgraded.
In the northwestern part of the area is the hill of Koufos (at the foot of the Athens Observatory) on the border with the Pentelic settlement of Agios Dimitrios. Gerakas is being built at a fast pace, after the building of the metro station Doukissis Plakentias, without losing its urban beauty. The houses are built only with tiled roofs, there are many parks spread around in the area and in general it is a beautiful environment for families and children.
