The district of Penteli is located 18 km northeast of Athens,
at an average altitude of 415m at the basin of synonymous
mountain. Penteli is divided in two areas, the Old and New
Penteli, surrounded by mountains and a growing pine tree
forest. The area of the municipality has 36,000 acres, of
which 6,600 acres are allocated for approximately 18,000
residents. The cities' plan provides squares and various other
amenities all around the area, while parts of the rich Penteli
forest run through both cities. Old and New Penteli have
experienced high residential growth of luxurious homes on
large plots mainly because of their rich forest vegetation, the
spectacular views of the basin of Athens and the Saronic
Gulf, and the excellent climate and clean air they offer. Apart
from being a beloved and family picknick destination during
the weekends, Pendeli offers a rich historical background to
its visitors. The Palace of Placentia, the Maisonette, the Inn
Plaisance, the Turret Tourelle, the National Observatory and
the Monastery of Penteli are all points of interest in the area.
Moreover, all the existing playgrounds are filled with
children enjoying their quality time with their parents, while
the traditional stone taverns and other points of interest
attract lots of visitors from the nearby suburbs of Athens.
