Luxury estate agents, an exceptional profession

With its connotations of refinement, quality and exclusivity, the luxury sector is the stuff of dreams for any estate agent who wants to see his or her career grow to the very top. But how exactly does it differ from the traditional property market?

How do I become a luxury estate agent?

An estate agent is a salesperson whose role is to sell property. However, if they hope one day to excel in the luxury sector, they will need to be patient and redouble their efforts as they work their way up the ranks, with the aim of gaining experience.

This prestigious sector is open to all estate agents holding a professional card or licence, but it is extremely selective. Initially, professionals should not be afraid to start out in a small suburban town, before applying for a position with a large agency, so that they can deal with clients wishing to invest in properties in the heart of the capital. In this way, their portfolio will gradually grow and, as a result, their reputation will increase.

You should also be aware that there are specific training courses to help you acquire the art of negotiation and real know-how. Although a minimum of 2 years' higher education is required, a professional degree in management and business law, for example, can be very useful. Why not try a professional master's in real estate and town planning? Joining the Institut d'études économiques et juridiques appliquées à la Construction et à l'Habitat, the École supérieure des professions immobilières or the VHS Business school can be a real springboard in an estate agent's career.

Rewards commensurate with the risks

By specialising in prestige real estate, estate agents will have the opportunity to develop a portfolio of sumptuous villas, châteaux, manor houses and maisons de maître, wine estates, period monuments and so on.

It is up to him to find rare gems by canvassing owners, with a single aim in mind: to satisfy his clients' requirements in every respect. For him, this means earning six-figure commissions, but also facing major legal responsibilities because of the money invested and the specific needs of a clientele anxious to preserve its anonymity and security.

As luxury experts, they must be able to anticipate questions and do their utmost to ensure that buyers are able to project themselves into their future lives. They must therefore be familiar with the codes of high society and the habits of each of their customers to find the right property for them.

A large-scale, confidential property market

Becoming a specialised agent is a passport to accessing an influential international clientele and discovering unheard-of places. Professionals generally have to deal with brilliant, highly educated personalities who work alongside experts in their field. So they naturally look for a competent, honest agent in whom they can have complete confidence.

Their motivations are completely different from those of traditional customers, who are more emotionally driven. Constantly in demand, they are looking for top-quality infrastructures that will enable them to stand out from their peers. Tailor-made services and special treatments are therefore imperative. The role of the prestige real estate agent is to support buyers and sellers in their projects with discretion, care and rigour! Their role is to go far beyond a simple visit to offer an extraordinary experience.
