2025Carrasco is a privileged residential neighborhood located southeast of the Uruguayan capital. Founded as a seaside resort in 1912, it remained isolated until its peak tourist popularity in the 1930s. Its design is the work of the renowned French landscape architect Charles Thays, who applied traditional French urban planning, blending it with the style of American garden neighborhoods. This neighborhood is characterized by its exceptional tranquility and excellent tree coverage; it also maintains a line of low-rise buildings, which allows for much less population density than other areas of the city, combining good urban design with exclusivity. Montevideo’s shore finds one of its finest expressions in Carrasco from a landscape perspective, with its beach being the longest in the city. Arocena Avenue is the most important commercial axis of the area, where various gastronomic, financial, health, and office services are located. Additionally, this is the location of the elegant Hotel Carrasco, surrounded by vast gardens and a large plaza extending onto the magnificent Carrasco beach.
