How to tie the perfect bouquet of flowers in 4 steps

Step 1: Select flowers

To tie a gorgeous bouquet, you need about 15 flowers. In addition to those mentioned at the beginning, many other flower varieties are now blooming in your spring garden, so that you can let your creativity run wild. Are you looking for a stimulating splash of colour for your interior? Then get a colourful mixture of ranunculus or gerbera from your garden. If you want your bouquet to radiate peace and harmony, cut violet hydrangeas or lilac. Whichever variety you ultimately choose, only cut off flowers that have not yet fully opened. This makes the bouquet last longer. You will also need some greens like eucalyptus, olive branches or aspidistra, a sharp knife, rose scissors and some ribbon.

Step 2: Prepare flowers

First, your flowers need to be prepared. Use the knife to remove all leaves, thorns and branches from the stems. The part of the bouquet that will later stand in the water should be absolutely free of plant parts. Otherwise, bacteria and germs can develop more easily here, which would cause the flowers to wither more quickly.

Step 3: Arrange flowers

When your flowers are free of rubbish, you can start arranging the flowers. First select a particularly large and magnificent flower to form the centre. Then alternately place a flower and a piece of greens at a slight angle to the stem of the middle flower. In this way, you gradually wrap a bouquet in a circle. However, before you tie your bouquet together, cut all the stems to the same length with the rose scissors. Make sure to cut the stems at an angle so they have a surface as large as possible to absorb water.

Step 4: Tying the bouquet

If you are satisfied with your arrangement, it is time to tie the flowers. Take 30 cm of ribbon and wrap it around the stems a few times. As soon as you feel the bouquet is tight enough, knot a pretty bow from the rest of the ribbon. Congratulations, your handmade and self bound bouquet is now finished!
