Program D2

The D2 Visa, also known as the Entrepreneur Visa or Residence Visa for Investment Activity, is an immigration program in Portugal designed to attract entrepreneurs who wish to invest in the country by creating or acquiring businesses that operate within Portuguese territory.

Key features of the D2 Visa:

Credible Business Plan: One of the primary requirements for applying for the D2 Visa is the submission of a robust and convincing business plan. This plan should demonstrate the merit and viability of the business project, as well as its potential contribution to the Portuguese economy.

Relevant Investment: Applicants are generally required to make a substantial financial investment in Portugal. The exact amount may vary based on the type of business and other factors, and it is determined by the competent authorities.

Job Creation: In addition to the investment, applicants are usually encouraged to create local jobs. Job generation is seen as a positive factor in the evaluation of applications.

Residence in Portugal: The D2 Visa may allow investors and their families to obtain residence in Portugal, which can lead to a path to Portuguese citizenship, depending on the duration and success of the investment.

Professional Support: It is recommended that applicants seek assistance from immigration lawyers or visa consultants, as the process can be complex, with requirements that vary according to each applicant's specific situation.

Program D7

The D7 Visa, also known as the Passive Income Visa, is a specific type of visa offered by Portugal, designed for foreign citizens who wish to establish residency in the country and have a stable source of passive income that allows them to live in Portugal.

Passive income can have various sources, such as property rentals, pensions, investment income, remote work, royalties, intellectual property, and even personal ventures. The primary goal of the D7 Visa is to attract individuals who can positively contribute to the country's economy while enjoying the quality of life in Portugal without the need to work in local jobs.

It's important to note that the requirements and procedures for obtaining the D7 Visa may vary depending on nationality and other individual factors. For up-to-date information and specific guidance on how to apply for this visa and what documents are required, we recommend contacting immigration authorities in Portugal or consulting an immigration specialist who can provide personalized assistance.

Establishing residency in Portugal through the D7 Visa can be an excellent opportunity for those who wish to enjoy the culture, beauty, and lifestyle of the country while maintaining their financial independence.

Program D8

The Digital Nomad Residence Visa, also known as the D8 Visa, is an initiative that Portugal has been considering to attract remote workers and digital entrepreneurs from around the world who wish to establish residence in the country. This visa aims to provide a unique opportunity for individuals to continue working in online jobs or managing digital businesses while enjoying the quality of life and rich culture of Portugal.

The main requirements for obtaining the D8 Visa typically include being employed by a company based outside of Portugal or working as a freelancer, in addition to demonstrating a minimum monthly income, usually equivalent to four times the minimum wage in Portugal (which, as of my last update, was 3,040 euros per month). This requirement is in place to ensure that applicants have the necessary financial resources to live and enjoy everything that Portugal has to offer.

Please be aware that the details of the D8 Visa may evolve over time, and it's important to check the latest information on the official website of the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service (SEF) or contact immigration authorities in Portugal for updated and accurate guidance.

Furthermore, it's advisable to seek the assistance of an immigration lawyer or visa specialist, as they can provide personalized guidance based on your specific situation, making the application process smoother and more efficient. We are here to help you realize your dream of living and working in Portugal as a digital nomad.

STEP 1: ACQUIRING A NIF NUMBER AND OPENING A BANK ACCOUNT

You have to get a Portuguese tax number (NIF) and open a bank account. You can delegate to your lawyers to complete this tasks without your presence:

  • NIF Number: Proof of address from your country of residence and bring it to a Finanças office;
  • Bank Account: Take your passport, NIF number, Portuguese phone number, proof of residence in your country of residence and proof of income and go to a bank.

STEP 2: FIND YOUR ACCOMMODATION

Time to search for the property that fits your needs and buy it.

STEP 3: D7 VISA APPLICATION AT THE PORTUGUESE CONSULATE

You will need to apply online for an appointment at the Portuguese consulate in your current region. You will need to collect the following documents:

  • A passport valid for at least six months after the expiry date of the Portugal passive income visa;
  • 2 recent colored passport-sized photographs;
  • A declaration outlining reasons for obtaining Portuguese residency;
  • Health insurance which provides coverage in Portugal;
  • Criminal record certificate from your residence country;
  • Travel insurance;
  • Evidence of having a property in Portugal;
  • Proof of sufficient finances available to the applicant in Portugal;
  • Proof of having a reasonable net regular passive income;
  • To be eligible you must prove that you have pensions or income amounting for 12 months: €8,460 for the applicant, plus 50 percent of this amount for your spouse and 30 percent for each dependent child.

STEP 4: APPLYING FOR A RESIDENCE PERMIT IN PORTUGAL

If you wish to apply for the D7 passive income resident permit then you need to enter Portugal with the D7 visa after the steps mentioned above. It allows you a maximum of two entries and to live in Portugal for up to 4 months. During those four months, you’ll need to enter Portugal and apply for a residence permit. You’ll need the following documents:

  • Your passport with the D7 visa issued by the Portuguese consulate;
  • Evidence of having a property in Portugal;
  • Proof of sufficient finances available to the applicant in Portugal;
  • Health insurance which provides coverage in Portugal.
