Vale do Lobo - Royal

Considered to be the most challenging course in Vale do Lobo, the Royal Golf Course has the particularity of offering the golfers enthusiastics an iconic scenery, recognised as the most photographed golf setting in Portugal. 

Opened in 1997, it was designed by the renowned golf arquitect Rocky Roquemore, based on Sir Henry Cotton's original layout, and is widely considered to be the best of the two golf courses Vale do Lobo has to offer. It stands out for its undulating fairways, cut out by a splendid pine forest and wildflowers.

The Royal Course, measuring 6005 meters with a par of 72, provides golfers with an exceptional experience marked by continuous challenges. which are confirmed by the distance of the shots to the greens, successive bunkers and lakes.

The imposing beauty of the course reaches its highest point when the golfer reaches the tee of the 16th hole, a par 3, providing an impactful moment, with the tee situated right on the edge of the cliff. It offers a unique landscape in the Algarve, revealing the marvelous contrast of the blue sea with the torrid tone of the hillside and the green of the fairway.

At the Portuguese Open in 2003, the thirteen holes of the Royal Course were combined with five holes of the Ocean Course (its sister course in Vale do Lobo) to form the layout required for this competition. It's therefore not surprising that this course is an extremely challenging test of golf.
