Onyria Palmares Golf
The most awarded golf course in Portugal is in Lagos
Onyria Palmares is Portugal’s best golf course for five successive years!
Onyria Palmares Beach & Golf Resort has claimed the national award for Portugal’s best golf course for five successive years, following a prestigious ceremony, on the 16th September 2016, at the Sao Francisco Convent conference centre, in Coimbra.
The stunning complex, landed the title at the much-vaunted Publituris Portugal Travel Awards 2016. It was the 13th year of the awards, which were created by the country’s leading travel trade magazine, Publituris – alongside current co-organisers Câmara Municipal de Coimbra and Turismo Centro de Portugal – to reward the best in Portuguese tourism.
Designed by mother-nature, Onyria Palmares highlight itself in the Algarve coast because of the prime location, faced to this incredible blue scenario of the Alvor lagoon, the “meia-praia” beach and the Lagos bay. A Perfect contrast with the green of this unique 27-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones II, which the links holes along the beach and the great views are the highlighting points.
Within the natural amphitheatre of the Bay of Lagos, Robert Trent Jones II has fashioned Europe’s next great golf course, Onyria Palmares Golf. The brief given to this exceptional American golf course designer was to craft a 27-hole golf course which maximised the potential of its extraordinary environment. The result is a golf course of breathtaking natural beauty which is a delight to play. The course opened 18 holes for play in October 2010 and the full 27 last June 2011 and it has matured nicely.
Robert Trent Jones II designed the golf course with the highest level of international tournament golf in mind as well as a pleasurable golf experience for members and tourists alike. There is plenty of challenge, if that’s what you want – especially from the white tees! Onyria Palmares Golf is composed of three returning nine-hole loops that can be played in any sequence. The genius in the routing is that, depending on the sequence of play, each golf experience is different. Each nine-hole loop – Alvor, Lagos and Praia - has its own character and ambience.
