It was from Lagos that Gil Eanes left, the navigator who proved that the world did not end at Cabo Bojador, and that the sea was not inhabited by monsters! Historically linked to the sea the city of Lagos in the Algarve was originally called Lacobriga. Due to its location and economic importance Lagos became a focal point for the Portuguese Discoveries and was even recognized as the capital of the Algarves. The strong connection to the sea remains and it is in Lagos that you can find the 1st Marina in the Iberian Peninsula to reach 5 stars.
According to Christian Scherrer, general manager of the GC32 Racing Tour, "for a long time" the organization of the race "tried to organize an event in Portugal". "Lagos it´s a wonderful place with the right conditions and I am very pleased to have brought the GC32 Racing Tour to Lagos “.
