Discrete, fast and with years of market knowledge.
The Festival of Popular Saints is one of the most awaited traditional events in Portugal. Despite its name, which might suggest ample religious implications, the festival occasions manifestations on the more worldly side of the spectrum.
The country goes out to have fun and to celebrate the saints who, according to tradition, fill their imaginations and give encouragement to their most devout prayers.
This tradition attracts people from north to south of Portugal, and gives great expression to these festivities, that are usually organized in associations or in peripheral neighborhoods. This is what happens in Lagos. Next to some collectives some masts are put up, some sardines are put to roast and some music begins to attract who wants to amuse.
The animation and festivities of the Popular Saints have already begun in Lagos. As in previous years, there are several associations in the municipality that promote social gatherings, arraiais and quermesses, accompanied by much music and animation of this time of the year.
In the next few days there is still a lot of celebration and animation throughout the county, with a highlight to Praça D'Armas, Rossio da Trindade, Chinicato, Portelas and Almádena
