Santpoort
Santpoort is a village in the province of Noord-Holland, situated in Midden-Kennemerland. It is formed by the separate residential areas Santpoort Noord and Santpoort Zuid, and is part of the municipality of Velsen. Both villages have a train station, Santpoort Noord and Santpoort Zuid, and are situated in beautiful, green surroundings near Bloemendaal and the beach. Other larger villages, as well as Haarlem, are nearby. The area is great for walking and cycling. Santpoort is characterised by broad streets, lots of green, and a very varied housing market. Population Santpoort
Santpoort has a population of over 10,000 and its name derives from the Latin Sancta Porta, which means ‘holy gate’. For centuries, Santpoort was a place where pilgrims passed on their journey to holy places north of here, especially in the Middle Ages. Both Santpoort Noord and Zuid attract families with children and pensioners who want to downsize and live in a green environment. The average annual income lies at €34,200 and the average value of houses under the Real Estate Valuation Act (WOZ-value) is €442,000. There are all kinds of shops and several schools. Other amenities include a wellness centre, a gym, and tennis courts.
Sights and accessibility
Santpoort Noord and Santpoort Zuid are not just great places to live but also have several interesting sights. The Duin & Kruidberg Country Estate is perhaps the most well-known destination, but the mill De Zandhaas, from 1779, is not to be missed as well. Santpoort also has the oldest archers’ association in the Netherlands. The village is on the main road N208 and, apart from two train stations, it also has bus links with IJmuiden and Haarlem.
