History of the village

This small village has about 1,000 residents and its name derives from the so-called ‘buntgras’, grey-hair grass, that used to grow here abundantly in the past. Bentveld as a village developed with the expansion of the more than 1000-year-old Groot Bentveld estate. Its current buildings nearly all date from after 1625. The housing market mostly consists of detached houses and villas. Bentveld is located on the N201 and has a favourable position in the Kennemerland dune landscape. The coast is just minutes away, but a bigger city like Haarlem is also within easy reach. The nearest train station is Heemstede-Aerdenhout. The immediate surrounding area invites to making long walks and cycle tours in the dynamic dune landscape with unique dune meadows and beaches.
