A goal that today as never before involves one of the jewels of the municipality and of Italy as a whole: Lake Varese.
The lake has recently undergone a major redevelopment. And now that the work is almost complete, efforts are being made to combine environmental enhancement and tourism that is as environmentally sustainable as possible. This was a theme that held centre stage in September 2022 during the 'Environment and Eco-sustainable Tourism' meeting, promoted by AQST (Accordo Quadro per il Risanamento del Lago di Varese - Framework Agreement for the Restoration of Lake Varese) as part of the Varese events of the European Sustainable Development Week. At the heart of the project for a sustainable Varese is the strong desire to respect the sensitivity of the individual towns around Lake Varese, of the communities living there, by thinking of redevelopment works that integrate with what already exists.
In particular, the projects associated with this initiative do not envisage large, impactful works: in some cases, such as the Schiranna beach, a simple reorganisation of the trees and pavement is sufficient. In the case of the 1930s ski jump area in Biandronno, a small service structure (bar and public toilets) is envisaged, which could serve as an example without impacting any other accommodation facilities around the lake. The watchword of these projects, realised after months of study and inspections on the shores of Lake Varese, is order and beauty: a common cue for the towns around the lake, with the aim of making the latter a tourist unicum.
The redevelopment of Lake Varese embraces the best practice of every project: to be successful, the territory must necessarily support the ideas. And so for the territory surrounding the wonderful Lake Varese it is necessary to promote and support this transition. Only in this way will there be a win-win situation and at the end of the path beauty will really be generated, with the Lake in ecological balance and an optimal balance between tourism, fishermen and catering.
The work needed to generate beauty along the shores of Lake Varese requires getting as close as possible to the subjects that can potentially be involved and intercepting as many interests as possible to pursue common goals. It will not be an end project, but a continuous path of improvement of the area to deliver to the citizens of Varese and tourists an ever better tourist attraction.
