What to see in Treviso: top 8 places to visit!

Treviso, the city of canals, is one of the most evocative venues in the Veneto region, full of places to discover. If you have little time available and you are wondering what to see in Treviso in one day, the answers will not be long in coming. The historic center of the city, in fact, contains within a few minutes on foot beauties that are little known to most but which once admired leave their mark.


Piazza dei Signori

Let's start this journey from the very center of the city of Treviso, Piazza dei Signori. Here are at least two places on the list of what to see in Treviso in one day, namely the Palazzo del Podestà with its Civic Tower and the Palazzo dei Trecento. Even today, Piazza dei Signori is the historic, cultural and civic center of the city, loved by the people of Treviso who meet here for parties and events but also for daily walks. The Palazzo dei Trecento is the seat of the Municipal Council as well as exhibitions and conferences. Even just by going to the center of this square and turning your gaze you can admire buildings that date back to 1100, keeping all their evocative power intact.


Calmaggiore and the Fountain of Tits

From Piazza dei Signori starts one of the most famous and popular streets of Treviso, Calmaggiore, the center of Treviso shopping. It is the Fountain of the Tits, a curious and goliardic attraction of the city, but which has an origin linked to the politics of Treviso's past. The fountain, located at Palazzo Zignoli, was "lit" to celebrate the new Mayor of Treviso, but instead of simple water on that occasion, white and red wine flowed from the breasts. Today the statue that can be seen on the street is a copy, while the original is kept in the Palazzo dei Trecento.

The Cathedral of Treviso and the Church of San Nicolò

At the end of via Calmaggiore coming from Piazza dei Signori, there is the cathedral of San Pietro Apostolo, or the Cathedral of Treviso. Of very ancient origin, today the Cathedral is an example of a Romanesque style church, which also houses some valuable works, such as the Annunciation by Titian. But the Duomo is not the largest church in Treviso, the most imposing is in fact S. Nicolò, a splendid and austere model of a Gothic church, located in its turn in the city center.

Isola della Pescheria

Not only historical places and places of worship are among the things to see in Treviso. A tourist attraction is the city's fish market, which can be visited by going to the island of Pescheria. Wanted by the Austrians, who moved it to the island in the mid-nineteenth century, it is a characteristic and lively corner of the city, not to be missed.


The Natural park of the Sile river

The theme park was inaugurated in 2008 and is located within the park of Villa Margherita.


The Walls of Treviso

Built for defensive purposes, the walls of Treviso are today the perfect place for a beautiful walk of about five kilometers around the historic center. The previous medieval walls were interspersed with eleven gates, while those built in the sixteenth century count 3: the gate of San Tommaso, the gate of Santi Quaranta and the gate of Altinia. The walls are a spectacular tree-lined boulevard to admire Treviso from a privileged point of view, and in the summer they become the scene of social events and appointments.


Land of Prosecco

Finally, it should be remembered that among the things to see in Treviso and its surroundings there are the wine cellars. Treviso, in fact, is the homeland of Prosecco and from here passes the Strada del Prosecco, an itinerary through the vineyards of the Marca that every bubbly enthusiast cannot miss.
