Although he was not the only one who aimed at this part of Sardinia: a Spanish nobleman, the Count Rafael Neville had his dream and bought the land imagining to create his own sardinian “ Dolce Vita” hideaway.
To realize his project Count Neville involved the locals and projected the first white residence in PortoRafael’s piazzetta but also the enchanting church of Santa Rita da Cascia.
We are talking about the 60's and the Count Neville was addicted to the striking beauty and the wild nature of that land were animals lived in the wild and the breeze scented of Mistral wind and mature plants.
Count Rafael invited nobility and internationally famous people to that magic place where sculptured villas - with their sinuous shapes and immaculate whitewashed walls- harmoniously blend into the savage landscape.

In that dream, he saw Sardinia.
Before buying the land that would become Porto Rafael, Neville has made many friends in Costa Smeralda, especially in La Maddalena and met many landowners who took him to Nelson Bay. It was love at first sight.
