PONZA... THE ISLAND OF THE MOON

The island of Ponza is the largest of the Pontine Islands, an archipelago located in the Tyrrhenian Sea, about 35 km from the Latium coast in Italy.

With an area of about 7.5 km² and a length of about 10 km, Ponza is characterised by a mountainous and rugged landscape, with a coastline rich in inlets, caves and sheer cliffs.

Ponza is of volcanic origin and has hilly terrain, with the highest point reaching 497 metres above sea level.

The island is surrounded by crystal-clear waters and offers a variety of beaches, many of which are only accessible by sea

The vegetation is typical of the Mediterranean macchia, with plants such as myrtle, lentisk and juniper.

Among the most famous beaches on Ponza are:

- Chiaia di Luna beach: known for its white sand and turquoise waters, it is one of the most iconic beaches on the island.

- Cala Feola beach: characterised by rocks and small coves, it is ideal for snorkelling.

Ponza has a rich and fascinating history dating back to Roman times. The island has been an important maritime landmark and has seen several civilisations pass through, including the Greeks and Romans. The ruins of ancient Roman villas and other historical structures are still visible.

The main centre, the municipality of Ponza, is characterised by colourful houses, narrow streets and a lively atmosphere, especially during the summer months. Here you will also find restaurants, bars and shops offering typical local products, such as fresh fish and the famous ‘Ponza bread’.
