The Portofino promontory divides the Golfo di Genova from Golfo del Tigullio (also called Golfo Guglielmo Marconi in honour of the radiophonic experiments conducted in this area by the Bolognese inventor), where you can find touristic centres and seaside resorts. The landscape is composed by stunning views of cliffs and reefs overlooking the sea, as Punta della Chiappa. Moving forward from Punta della Chiappa, the shore enters Cala dell’Oro, closed between two steep rocky walls.
Further on, you can enter the beautiful San Fruttuoso Bay, with its tiny houses reflecting their shadows in the emerald waters surrounded by green pines. At the entrance of the small bay, sunk into the abyss of the sea, lies the Christ of Abyss, the 2.5 metres statue that since 1954 protects all the sailors and remembers those who lost their lives in the sea. On the beach, the beautiful San Fruttuoso di Capodimonte Abbey, with its strong arches that were once wet by the sea. Then the landscape suddenly changes when, once overtaken Punta di Portofino, the landscape shows us the natural arch shape of Golfo del Tigullio.
The first place that we meet is Portofino, well-known summer and winter vacation destination, where it is easy to meet tourists and celebrities from all over the world. This spot is just like heaven and it is all to be discovered: the natural reserve park alternates natural ecosystems and cultivated lands, surrounded by the typical vineyards and Mediterranean vegetation. This is an unmissable stop for those who want to spend some time in this part of Liguria and are ready to immerge their selves in a unique atmosphere, made of ancient maritime traditions. Moving forward from this spot and walking by the verdant gardens filled with hotels and estates, we reach another beautiful and tiny bay: Paraggi.
Once we have overtaken Punta del Pedale, we easily reach Santa Margherita Ligure, one of the most important spots of the Riviera Ligure, situated in the beautiful inlets of Golfo del Tigullio. This small town is active throughout the whole year, and it is divided into two parts: the ancient one, with the fishermen centre and the crowded port filled with trawlers and small cruise boats; and the more modern one, with luxury hotels and villas situated on the hills and surrounded by parks and gardens. At the far end of the Gulf we find Rapallo, another well-known touristic centre. Thanks to its stunning hotels situated along the seaside, to the nature, culture, gastronomy, sport, sailing and night-life activities, Rapallo is an ideal place where to spend a wonderful stay, no matter in what season.
All locations are easily accessible either autonomously or by the Genoa Airport shuttle service, and connected by an efficient railway system.
