Some people probably are familiar with the term Törggelen. If not, in this blog we will explain the South Tyrolean tradition: Törggelen.
For many years there has been a tradition of Törggelen in South Tyrol during Autumn. It is an old peasant tradition that was introduced to try the young wine "Nuier". The Torggl, the South Tyrolean wine press, is the eponym of this famous tradition. To taste the young wine, people went into the wine cellar and enjoyed the "Nuier" together with neighbours and friends.
Even today the cosy get-together is still celebrated in all parts of South Tyrol and the evenings are typically topped off with delicious dishes such as barley soup, “Schlutzkrapfen”, bacon, “Kaminwurzen”, cheese, homemade bread, sausages, sauerkraut and chestnuts for dessert.
