"Architecture is as much a skilful, rigorous and magnificent play of volumes assembled in the light". This quote of the great architect Le Corbusier, who created his own architecture idea on the relationship between volumes and lighting, describes how essential good lighting is in a villa facing Lago Maggiore.
Planning the suitable lighting for luxury houses requires a real project, because this feature can substantially change the property perception. Designing lighting does not mean choosing between a spotlight or another, the size of a chandelier, or between a cold or a warm light. It means creating a luminary design that can harmoniously fit into spaces, emphasizing the peculiarities of each room and its furnishings.
Every villa Lago Maggiore is unique. Each has its own intrinsic characteristics, determined by spaces and position, but also by the personality of its inhabitants, which is reflected in the stylistic and furnishing choices. Therefore, every lighting must necessarily be designed ad hoc. All the more when it is time to design lighting for luxury homes: every detail must be unique and at the same time harmoniously inserted into the whole.
However, there are good practices, ideas that can guide your choices, declining each time in different solutions. A valid rule always good is to design a multi-level lighting system, that is, at different heights. The combination of floor lamps, ceiling lights, chandeliers guarantees dynamic lighting capable of highlighting different corners of a room, but also the possibility of adjusting the lighting level, according to requirements. The important thing is that the whole is coherent and harmonious, and that the lights have a similar color temperature. The color temperature is measured in Kelvin degrees: if less than 3,300 we speak of warm light, between 3,600 and 6,500 degrees Kelvin we speak of cold light bulbs.
Another important aspect in luxury home lighting design is that of using light to better highlight the indoor layout. In some cases lights are excellent tools to amplify the space perception. This aspect should be exploited when dealing with small or dark rooms. On the contrary, in wide open spaces, you may need it to obtain a small corner. In this way, a well positioned light can create an intimate and warm envioroment. In a modern layout, this task is excellently performed by LED lights, perfect for highlighting certain functional areas, such as a "bar" area in the living room.
Each room has its own function, to which lighting can also contribute. Kitchen, for example, requires useful lights on the work areas, just as the dining table must be well lit. The studio room needs a direct light source on the desk, in order to facilitate reading. A nice lighting system will help to embellish a luxury bookcase. While in the bathroom an essential light is the one placed behind the mirror: in addition to illuminating, it can become a pleasant furniture detail. Bedroom obviously requires softer and more relaxing lights, but the possibility of reading a book before falling asleep must not be precluded.
