The first summer season without Covid-related restrictions. There are many events to attend and leisure opportunities in the Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta area. Here are some tips.
The summer season is around the corner and it comes with great expectations. After years of restrictions and uncertainties due to the pandemic, summer 2022 on Lake Maggiore is back with events of all kinds, finally in-person. Concerts, events, places to see, trips and excursions. You won’t be out of recreation opportunities . Let's see some of the best things to do during the warmer season on Lake Maggiore.

One of the most interesting summer events in the area of Lake Maggiore is Musica in Quota, a festival of free concerts that take place on top of the Verbano mountains. The program takes place this year from 19 June to 11 September in unique scenarios between 800 and 2,500 meters above sea level. From Pian d’Arla to the Piancavallone Refuge, from Alpe Lut to Monte Camoscio, it will be possible to listen to choirs and music of different genres. The concert is accompanied by an excursion (not guided) to reach the performance venue. In Verbano as well, you can attend the Cross Festival, a multidisciplinary event that is all about sustainability. It takes place until 3 July in the areas of Verbania, Ameno and Orta San Giulio with a full program to be discovered.
This year one of the symbolic events of Lake Maggiore is finally back, the Stresa Festival 61st edition. Directed by Maestro Gianandrea Noseda, there are concerts scheduled in all the most evocative locations of Lake Maggiore: from Stresa, of course, to the Borromean Islands, to the Rocca di Angera, and even in the hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso. You can enjoy classical and jazz music with this year’s performing artists Patti Smith, Fabrizio Bosso, Andrea Lucchesini and Stephen Braun.
Among the Lake Maggiore excursions there are many places to see on two wheels, so you can admire unique views without filters. A comfortable loop cycle path connects Stresa and Arona. From here you can enter the Parco dei Lagoni di Mercurago, another place worth seeing while pedaling. For the more daring ones, the advice is to take the climb to Mottarone, known as the "Mountain of the two lakes" because it straddles Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta border.
