Perhaps not everyone knows that, just beyond the lush hills rich in beautiful villas with a stunning Lago Maggiore view, on the Piedmont side, the largest wilderness area in Italy stands out: Parco Nazionale Val Grande.
Another world made up of great silences and unspoilt nature, but with many hiking paths for every level: from nature paths for families, to more challenging tracks that can be done only be experienced and trained hikers.
From this amazing Villa Lago Maggiore, for example, you can reach in 15 minutes by auto Alpe Ompio. From the car park, fifteen minutes on foot you will reach the lovely Rifugio Fantoli. And this is a perfect starting point for several walks of different levels: we suggest the easy path to Monte Faiè (about 1h from the mountain shelter) that despite the low altitude (1352m) offers one of the most wonderful balconies on the Lakes: here you can admire not only Lago Maggiore, but also Mergozzo Lake, Lake Orta and Varese Lakes!
Even at lower altitudes, it is possible to take beautiful walks immersed in nature; this modern villa Lago Maggiore, for example, boasts a dominant position over the village of Cannero Riviera that is connected to Cannobio thank to the panoramic Via delle Genti. This is the old pedestrian road that linked the two towns, while nowadays is a wonderful path inside the wood than everyone can do. Walking through this track you can enjoy a lovely hiking afternoon surrounded by nature and with Lake view, and in summer, you could end this walk with a beautiful dip.
But also, the Lombard shore has nothing to be jealous of, if living in a wood with Lake view is still not enough for you, then this bungalow is not far from the track that from Laveno goes to Germignaga. This route is known as “Alta Via della Valtravaglia” and pass through the panoramic Pizzoni of Laveno, three hills with a beautiful wood bridge, reaching then the nice village of Germignaga stopping at Rifugio Adamoli and at the basin of Alpe San Michele, where we can find the homonymous church.
