It all started in 1999, from the passion of Lino Betti, who transformed his home in Leggiuno into a Christmas lights and music show capable of attracting thousands of visitors. Year after year, his collection has grown to 500,000 lights.
An one-of-a-kind show that, after a few years of hiatus, will return this year to the new headquarters of Gaggetto Park in Laveno-Mombello. A transfer of a few kilometers to the north, always overlooking Lake Maggiore and to become an even more beautiful attraction. In fact, a real Christmas village will be created illuminated by over 500 thousand LEDs, with many surprises for adults and children. So the appointment is in Laveno Mombello until January 9th.
The Christmas Lights, Lucine di Natale, this year will be really big. A real village to breathe the magic of Christmas, in a fairytale path just a few steps from the lake. Reindeer, sledges, Santa Clauses, comets and luminous fir trees will brightly illuminate the town of Laveno.
More than 500,000 LED lights installed that will literally light up Parco del Gaggetto. In the area there will also be markets and food stands to refresh yourself from the cold with hot chocolate and mulled wine, as well as an ice skating rink and a Ferris wheel.
Until January 9, visitors will find many other surprises. Like Santa's sleigh, which will land every day (until 25 December) to meet the children and collect Christmas letters. While from December 26 it will be the turn of Befana to make a stop with her sweets ... and a little coal.
The Christmas Lights show will be open every day until January 9, from 5.30 pm to 11 pm (at 12 pm on Saturday and Sunday). Two days of closure: 24 and 31 December. To access the park you need to buy a ticket (6 euros for adult, 4 euros for children and other categories, free admission for children up to 2 years).
“I bought the first lights in a city in Brazil, my wife's hometown: 100 dollars for a first bundle of lights. It was 1999 and since that day, every year, I have enriched the collection ”says Lino Betti, on the website of the event.
Year after year, Mr. Lino has transformed Leggiuno into the Country of Christmas Lights: first by illuminating his house and garden, then, with the help of some collaborators, the whole town: glacial caves, fairy-tale castles, flowering meadows, trees , reindeer and other fantastic creatures. An overwhelming success that in the last edition (2018) welcomed over 140,000 visitors. After a few years of stop, we start again from Laveno-Mombello.
However, Christmas Lights are not the only attraction of this beautiful town overlooking Lake Maggiore. Also not to be missed is the beautiful nativity scene under Lake water made up of 42 life-size white stone statues, placed on five different platforms in the waters in front of Piazza Caduti del Lavoro, where volunteers of "Amici del Presepe Sommerso" welcome visitors. with hot chocolate, Christmas gadgets and moments of entertainment.
