Golf Cup Engel & Völkers Italia 2024 - the Castelconturbia Golf Club
In 1898, the
Couturbier Golf Course was the only golf course in Piedmont, when there were only two in Italy and it was frequented by the Savoy family, the Italian royal family, who would travel to the County of Conturbia for fox hunting.
News reports of the time stated, "The Course is situated on land perfectly suitable for golf. The moor is insurmountable, that is always the desire of true players." In fact, this course stretches over a wide and extensive meadow full of pleasant undulations and narrow valleys.
The course, amidst ups and downs, operated until around 1963 when it fell into neglect.
In 1984 it was refounded for the third time under the name
Castelconturbia Golf Club and affiliated with the Italian Golf Federation. The driving range, with attached three practice holes, was opened in 1986 and then, one by one, the three courses until all 27 holes were open for play in September 1987.
The
modern 27-hole course, designed and built by renowned architect
Robert Trent Jones Sr, who has designed more than 500 golf courses around the world, was built on an area of more than one million square meters in an ideal zone among ancient trees, streams, small lakes and slight undulations of the terrain, to shape, in the architect's own opinion, one of his most successful courses that harmoniously integrates into the splendid and intact natural environment from which to contemplate between holes the majesty of the Monte Rosa massif.
The Castelconturbia golf course is located in the County of Conturbia, in the neighborhood of the seventeenth-century castle, upstream of the Ticino River, where the waters of Lake Maggiore gradually become the river, in a splendid setting of unspoiled nature.
The course has been ranked among the
best 10 courses in continental Europe and since 1987, and for all the following years, the Club has been awarded the coveted recognition with which the best courses in Italy are awarded, until it reached the qualification of best course in 2003.
Among other things, the course has had the honor of hosting the
Italian Open twice in 1991 and 1998 and the
Challenge Tour in 2020.
