Pisogne, comprising around 10,000 inhabitants, is characterized as being nestled between lake Iseo and the base of the central Alps. It boasts a quaint village charm, with an iconic church at the center, spacious cobblestone plazas, and outdoor cafés offering lovely views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
The town’s name was recorded as far back as 1227, and today, Pisogne’s characteristic town centre, Piazza Corna Pellegrini, is a testament to its long-standing history. Facing Lake Iseo, the Piazza features narrow alleys, stone walls, and ancient pastel-colored town houses that have been converted into shop buildings and apartments. At the center is the Bishop’s Tower that was built in 1250, and behind it is the parish church dating back to 1769.
A short distance from the historic town centre are two cycling paths: the Oglio cycling path to the north leading to il Tonale, and the Vello-Toline walking / cycling path located southwards along Lake Iseo. These paths provide the perfect opportunity to enjoy the town and its spectacular views of the Alps and the lake. Residents of Pisogne can ride their bicycles, take early morning jogs, and walk their dogs along these two paths, and enjoy the fresh healthy air and serene ambiance.
Cobblestone streets and plazas, preserved ancient structures, quaint cottage houses, and the lush countryside harmonise to create a serene and beautiful landscape. Residents of the town enjoy access to many modern conveniences, and this convenience makes Pisogne an ideal home for those wanting a peaceful environment with rich history, and away from the hustle and bustle of highly urban areas.
Residential properties in Pisogne showcase much of the town’s personality, with many of them being apartments set in pastel-colored buildings that were once used as town houses by wealthy families centuries ago. The interiors of these apartments, are refurbished to suit the interior standards of today. Chalets in large plots are also common residences in Pisogne; many of them featuring rustic architecture and design, with low-pitched shingled roofs, stone walls and wooden window panes. These houses are also known in Italy as baitas—a baita referring to a small dwelling found in the Alps. Nowadays these baitas or chalets have modern interiors, but still retain the rustic charm of a classic house in Pisogne.
