Southeast of Lake Iseo, and surrounded by the idyllic farmland and vineyards of Lombardy, is the medieval town of Capriolo. Located in northern Italy between the river Oglio and Mount Alto this historic locale is situated in Franciacorta, a region famous for the quality of its wine and Italian champagne. With beautiful countryside as far as they eye can see, Capriolo has the famed Lake Iseo less than 10 minutes away to its north. Well served by the A4 motorway the town is ideally located, allowing easy access to several cities. The strategic location of the town of Capriolo has played an important part in the region of Franciacorta. Steeped in history, Capriolo is home to an enduring castle built in the 10th century by the Lantieri, an old prominent Italian family. The striking castle was eventually converted into a monastery now known as the Monastero Suore Orsoline. Nearby the monastery stands an impressive postal office and the Chiesa Di San Giorgio, a gorgeous church with an iconic clock tower. Capriolo also holds the Sagra di San Giorgio which is a time-honoured festival held annually on April 23rd in celebration of the town’s patron Saint, George the dragon slayer.
