The “Freyschlössl” – a castle property in a prime location in Salzburg’s Old Town is now up for sale. This magnificent property is located on Salzburg’s Mönchsberg mountainside and, thanks to its elevated position, it affords a breathtaking panoramic view of the Hohensalzburg Fortress, Salzburg’s Old Town and the beautiful surrounding mountain scenery. The ensemble of buildings, which includes a modern cube structure, a tower, a half-timbered building and a west wing, is set on a land plot spanning some 1.35 hectares. The interiors span around 876 square metres in total, extending over several floors with 15 rooms including a tower room, all of which can be reached via a glass elevator. The historic “Tyrnitz” and a further outbuilding can also be found within the expansive park grounds. Other noteworthy features include a garden house, several terraces and balconies with beautiful views, a separate transformer station for the power supply, four garage spaces and various outdoor parking spaces.
The name “Freyburg / Freyschlössl” can be traced back to the Salzburg merchant Carl von Frey, who purchased the estate in 1862 and had it remodelled in the neo-Gothic style. The ensemble is listed for its historical importance and has been painstakingly restored in consultation with the Salzburg Old Town Commission. The finished result boasts unique period features throughout the property. Contemporary elements such as the glass dome roof and concrete cube extension were added during the course of the refurbishment work. “For those who love heritage properties, this unique dwelling is a rare find indeed. It combines both historical and present-day design and we are very proud to be brokering this special property,” says Alexander Heim, Managing Director at Engel & Völkers Salzburg.
