On Sunday 7th November, Engel & Völkers Castiglione della Pescaia • Argentario had the pleasure to support the event “United Notions: Complexity” organized by "La Maremma delle Idee".
The purpose of the event is to "explain the complexity phenomenon and use it for helping our future and the planet’s future".
The complexity phenomenon is today a current topic, thanks to professor Giorgio Parisi, who recently won the Nobel Prize in Physics. He discovered the “chaotic and fluctuating interactions of physical systems from atomic scales to planetary scales".
The following experts helped to understand this fascinating topic:
“The Nobel Prize winner professor Parisi - explained professor Chiara Mocenni - helps us reflect on the complexity phenomenon. What is complexity? It is a fundamental ingredient of the living systems, made of countless interacting and interconnecting elements. Each element has its own play role, its own dynamic potential, and it is influenced by the others. Interactions are dynamic, unpredictable and transformational. Complex systems are not always under control, as shown by the COVID-19 epidemic and climate change".
We can use the flight of birds to explain the complexity phenomenon. Their fantastic coordination in flight produces harmonious evolutions. As a result, the birds are no longer the sum of the single parts, but they become a new entity with its own will.
It is interesting to observe how each bird interacts only with individuals close to it, without having any knowledge of the global structure of the group.
The same dynamic can be found in a crowd: car traffic, applause at the end of a concert, or the flows of opinions and trends. All these situations show how each person acts on the basis of local dynamics without having any knowledge of the group's behaviour.
The event was sponsored also by Engel & Völkers Castiglione della Pescaia • Argentario.
Fabrizio Pasquini - Office Manager and License Partner of the Company - declared: “It was very intriguing to take part in such scientific discussion. The complexity phenomenon was explained on different levels. The experts made this complex topic understandable for everyone ".
