Luxury real estate: trends for 2020

The luxury real estate market has been little affected by the recent health crisis although things have been put on hold somewhat. Looking at expected trends for the remainder of 2020, it would appear that investing in bricks and mortar is a safer bet than ever, for French and foreign purchasers alike. France and its architectural treasures, both in Paris and beyond, still enjoys its image of exclusivity - a symbol of success that continues to attract wealthy investors.

Luxury real estate:  a safe investment for the French

Although the current health crisis has thwarted many high-risk investments, high-end real estate is still considered a safe haven - in fact, now more than ever.

Real estate: a sector that offers reassurance

Investing in high-end bricks and mortar, synonymous with security and stability, is a safe bet financially as well as in a broader sense, in an uncertain socio-economic climate. By investing in high-end real estate, you’ll have the luxury of enjoying an oasis of calm during any potential lockdown while also ensuring a future for your children in the event of a financial crisis.

The appeal of high-end, second homes

As a result of the Covid-19 crisis, we have observed an increase in searches for properties in Normandy, Brittany and Centre-Val de Loire. After lockdown, Parisian buyers are looking for large, second homes where they can escape for a weekend. Social distancing has created a desire for space. However, we’ve already noticed a resurgence of interest in the Côte d’Azur and the South-West with Cap Ferret and Biarritz leading the way, signalling a return to normality in the market.

French luxury real estate, a sector that is still attractive to foreigners

Despite the uncertain global, economic climate, France is still the world’s most attractive country for potential buyers of high-end property.

French luxury real estate: a sector that offers reassurance, even abroad

France has always attracted investors, thanks, of course, to its remarkable properties as well as its image, associated with many different forms of luxury: Fashion, food, wine, culture etc. All these aspects contribute significantly to France’s appeal to foreign investors - an appeal that is still evident in 2020.

Every nationality has its preferred market

Historically, Americans, Chinese and wealthy buyers from the Middle East have chosen to invest in Paris. And the trend looks similar for the rest of 2020. However, although the Left Bank is generally very popular, we have also noticed a strong interest in the districts that make up the city’s historic centre, and the 6th district in particular. The Swiss, Belgians and Luxembourgers prefer to buy in the regions. Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, and the Cannes countryside, in particular, continue to attract purchasers. We’ve also observed an increased interest in Hyères and inland regions where’re you’ll find a variety of charming, traditional properties.
