Torrevieja is of course well-known for its stunning beaches, however, another intriguing product from this region, and which is progressively gaining popularity, are the characteristic grape varietals of Monastrell and Moscatel. Alicante wine growing has seen a huge transformation in the previous several decades and is now producing some excellent wines, in particular particularly spicy reds from the Monastrell grape.
Alicante has three distinct subzones of wine-producing areas. Vinalopó is the southernmost and driest region, producing predominantly red wines from the Monastrell grape, which makes the distinctive sweet red Fondillón wine, prepared in the rancio style from overripe grapes. La Marina is the northernmost and wettest location along the Mediterranean coast, producing Moscatel sweet white wines. Between the two regions, El Comtat produces both dry red and sweet white wines.
The following are bodegas with extensive wine collections from various locations and vineyards that offer wine tastings and excursions. We recommend that you contact the Bodegas to book a visit.
