Orihuela Costa, a seaside district on the Costa Blanca, consists of numerous residential suburbs—each with something unique to offer when it comes to sights, activities, amenities, atmosphere and lifestyle. Here, we list down the top places to live in Orihuela Costa—according to amenities, attractions, and the type of lifestyle.
La Zenia
Perhaps the most popular suburb of Orihuela Costa, La Zenia is known for its lively atmosphere and diverse amenities and services including restaurants, supermarkets, schools and leisure services—the most famous one being La Zenia Boulevard, a massive open-air shopping mall filled with restaurants and shops. La Zenia offers a lifestyle ideal for singles and couples, who want a more relaxed pace away from city life, and also for families who would like to be conveniently near to most amenities. Modern apartments, convenient transportation services, and the fact that the suburb is a very short drive to nearby Torrevieja are all advantages. Not to mention the amazing beaches nearby.
Playa Flamenca
This area boasts a crescent shoreline, white sand and calm, blue waters that are safe for young children to swim and sandy shores to play. Playa Flamenca exudes a coastal atmosphere, with many residential properties and villas close to the beach. There are various restaurants, bars and supermarkets, nearby which can easily be reached by car, bicycle, or even walking. An outdoor market open every Saturday that offers all types of locally-sourced products at good deals. We are very near to the National Road and a quick drive into Torrevieja. Like La Zenia, the lifestyle suits couples and families.
Villamartin – Strong Choice for Real Estate Investment
An urbanization which boasts numerous golf resorts Villamartin is popular with golf and sports enthusiasts. The golf resorts also double as residential neighborhoods, housing villas, duplexes and apartments—many of which feature luxurious amenities such as private pools, solariums and gardens. The luxurious residences, and Villamartin’s wide array of sports and leisure facilities, offer an active and comfortable lifestyle for its residents. Due to Golf’s high season actually being the months out of summer there are plenty of holiday makers all year round. This is interesting to note as real estate in the area offers strong investment potential with many holiday properties in the area let all year round. Also unique, some owners holiday let the winter months and enjoy the property during summer. The area is suitable for people looking for a second home in Spain, families, and couples with small children. There are both International and Spanish schools nearby.
Cabo Roig
Cabo Roig is a sought after tranquil urbanization which boasts beautiful beaches and coves—such as Playa Cala Capitan and Playa Cala Caleta—that feature clean and gentle waters. Around the marina where restaurants and cafés are situated, there are villas and residences with large windows and open plan living to enjoy the natural light and healthy fresh air. Cabo Roig is an amiable home town for families, as it provides a safe and tranquil lifestyle, and is situated right next to the modern amenities and services offered at La Zenia, and only 10 minutes drive from Torrevieja.
Campoamor (Dehesa de Campoamor)
Located just south of Cabo Roig, Campoamor is a seaside locality with unspoilt natural beauty. It has a secluded and uncrowded Blue Flag beach and cove. One of the greenest areas on this coastline there are many small lovely parks where one can take relaxing strolls and even enjoy a picnic. Campoamor is not as urbanised as La Zenia, however there are restaurants, a supermarket and a golf resort in the area (Real Club de Golf Campoamor). This is a tranquil residential area that offers green, healthy living and neighborhoods of sprawling villas and large apartments with gorgeous views. The area is perfect for couples and families who appreciate the tranquil lifestyle offered by an area with many green open spaces, while being only a 15 minute drive from Torrevieja. One of my favourite areas, I highly recommend this for large families or couples with small children.
Mil Palmeras
Literally translating to ‘a thousand palm trees’, Mil Palmeras is a peaceful, uncrowded town with abundant palm trees and a traditional Spanish village charm. Many houses feature white, stucco walls with ornately-designed iron grills and railing. Mil Palmeras bodes well for couples and families looking for a lifestyle that is more immersed in Spanish culture and history (compared with La Zenia and Playa Flamenca which have a large percentage of foreigners). Choosing the town as a permanent home, however, would require having a car. Public transportation is not abundant, and you would have to travel to La Zenia or Torrevieja for certain amenities and services.
San Miguel de Salinas
San Miguel de Salinas is a countryside town near the natural salt lakes of Torrevieja and features citrus groves and lush mountain greenery. The area has recently attracted a lot of foreign interest due to the authentic Spanish culture of the region and the size of real estate one is able to afford, especially when comparing with areas on or near the coast. There are plenty of amenities and services available, however, for more options one needs a car. The area is ideal for large families, especially those requiring extra space for guests. From here you are only a 10 minute drive to the lovely coastal beaches of Punta Prima and Cala Ferris, and a 15 minute drive to Torrevieja.
