Located in Campo da Torre, near the Commercial Center of Pontevedra, Parque das Palmeiras (Part of the larger Alameda Park) is one of the city’s most visited spaces. The popular urban park is set amongst the tall, modern buildings and busy streets in Pontevedra’s picturesque city center—providing a vibrant and healthy space where people can relax, exercise or just take a stroll to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The park consists of multiple landscaped gardens separated only by paved foot trails. Trees of different kinds occupy the entire area, including leafy pine trees, oak trees providing large canopies of shade, and towering palm trees that give the park its name. Benches positioned in different areas of the park provide a place for visitors to relax and enjoy the lovely scenery and fresh, healthy air. A spacious children’s playground offers a space where kids can run around and play under the cool shade of the trees.
Parque de Palmeiras is notable for its large duck pond where water fowl can swim freely. It features a huge pool filled with clear water and several fountains, including metal frogs that spurt water from their mouths. Small islands containing different species of local flora are placed in various areas of the pool. At the center is a large island covered in white stones, where a tall pine tree stands. On this island is a colorful little house with a ramp towards the water, where ducks can walk up to and explore.
