A sweeping urban park in Campo da Torre, near Pontevedra’s Commercial Centre, Parque Alameda features an elevated grassy field with rows of trees and cement benches. Sets of stone steps in various areas provide access to the park. A tall gazebo with ornate metal pillars and railings stand at the front of the park, just facing the spacious plaza where Pontevedra’s local government offices are situated.

Parque Alameda is a long park that stretches from the rotunda (at Avenida la Reina Victoria Eugenia) all the way to the historical landmark of Monumento aos Heroes de Pontesampaio. Likewise, the street of Rúa Alameda runs along the entire length of Parque Alameda, providing residents and pedestrians a scenic view of the park’s rich greenery, and plenty of fresh air. Each year, the Feira Franca de Pontevedra is held in Parque Alameda. Starting from the third week of August until the second week of September, the Feira Franca is a month-long festival where locals and visitors alike dress up as medieval citizens. Exhibits, shows and even food stalls will all be reminiscent of the Middle Ages, as the festival dates back to 1467, when King Henry IV proclaimed Pontevedra’s right to hold a tax-free open market for a month. Since then, the festival is held as an important celebration of local culture, history, food, music and art.
