Puente Romano: Marbella’s Premier Beach Resort

The Puente Romano resort was built in 1974 as an executive apartment complex along Marbella’s luxurious ‘Golden Mile’. It was founded by Alfonso Von Hohenlohe, a German-Spanish royal prince. The prince was also the owner and proprietor of the Marbella Club Hotel at the time.

Mouaffak Al Midani, one of the regular clients at the Marbella Club Hotel and a personal friend to Prince Alfonso, saw the potential of converting the apartment complex into a resort. After a lengthy period of negotiation, Mr Al Midani finally acquired the property in 1979.

In 1979, Puente Romano was officially launched as one of Marbella’s most sought after resorts.

Modern Day Puente Romano

Puente Romano offers the perfect combination of modern amenities, stunning architecture and authentic historical heritage. The resort truly offers the best luxury apartments in the Puente Romano area. Within the resort complex is the Vía Augusta, the longest (and busiest) road built by the Roman Empire. This historical fixture is perfectly complemented by visually stunning design elements from celebrated British interior designer, Andrew Martin.

In terms of convenience, the Puente Romano resort is located 45 minutes away from the Málaga International Airport. As a luxury resort is solidified by its official status as one of the Leading Hotels of the World. The resort is located at a beachfront property, along the Costa del Sol on the Mediterranean. This offers the perfect location to have fun on the pristine beach and there are tons of water activities to keep you to enjoy.

If you are a foodie, then you will be spoilt for choice by the numerous restaurants offering gourmet dishes. The centrepiece of Puente Romano’s food culture has to be the NOBU restaurant, owned by the celebrated Chef Nobu Matsuhisa. It offers a mouth-watering Asian fusion menu. Thanks to its seaside location, there are a number of seafood restaurants offering the freshest delicacies. Other types of cuisine that you should check out within Puente Romano include Italian cuisine, Thai cuisine, Tapas and many more. For the best local cuisine, Chef Dani Garcia’s Michelin star restaurant Bibo offers the best Spanish meals including traditional specialities as well as more modern meal options.

Fancy some tennis?

Whether you enjoy tennis as a pastime, or if you are a fierce competitor, no visit to Puente Romano is complete for the tennis lover without checking in at the Puente Romano Tennis club. The club was founded in 1979 by none other than tennis great Bjorn Borg. Over the decades, it has hosted dozens of international and local tournaments, attracting the biggest names in the sport. The club is open to visitors, who can elevate their game by working with the professional coaches on staff. There are a total of 10 tennis courts – 2 being hard courts while the other 8 are clay courts. This ensures that there is room for everyone.
