At a time when we are becoming increasingly aware of the need to be more environmentally friendly, we have made a conscious decision this year to renounce one of our beautiful traditions: sending Christmas postcards to clients all over the world. In return, we used the money for something that we believe made a bigger impact.
Engel & Völkers Mallorca Central & South has entered a partnership with Aldeas Infantiles SOS in Palma's Son Gotleu district since 2018, and for the first time, we have organized something very special alongside with the team of Mallorca Southwest and Duke Catering.
We wanted to give the children, who have so little, some Christmas spirit and a joyful Christmas season. Therefore, we organized a Christmas party for the children of the centre last 17th of December, where they got the Christmas presents they asked for in their Christmas wish list, have some cookies and drink hot- chocolate provided by the Chef Ronny Portulidis from Duke Catering in Santa Catalina. A celebration with plenty of decoration, surprises, tables with all kinds of sweets and the most important thing: giving the kids a special Christmas time that they will always remember.
The planning started months in advance in order to prepare everything in time. At the beginning of December, we went to collect everyone’s wish list and made sure every kid would get a present they were really looking forward to.
After collecting all of the wish lists, the hardest part was yet to be done. Buy every single personal gift for everyone to receive exactly what they wished for – a total of 34 gifts were bought: from plasticine to sneakers with wheels, playmobile, different types of dolls and much more, which then had to be wrapped up and put in a Christmas bag.
Thankfully, we counted with the help of the great Christmas Elves helpers: the Mallorca Southwest team, who got every single gift and then beautifully wrapped them up.
On the morning of the 17th, the fun part came: to decorate the dining room and make everything look more Christmassy for the kids, prepare the hot chocolate alongside with the team, and get everything ready for 16:00 o’clock, that was when the kids came into the celebrations room to spend a wonderful time.
As the start time began to come closer, you could already hear the excitement from the other side of the building, and once they got to the dining room all you could see were big bright smiles and their jaw-dropping once they saw all of the Christmas presents. We then spent the afternoon having hot chocolate, sweets, laughing and taking instant-pictures so the kids could take something home which they will always remember.
There’s no doubt that the children enjoyed every second of it, and we truly believe that they will remember it as a very special day. That’s one of the reasons why we want to do this every year as we believe that we can make a small difference to our community. Without the help of the team of Mallorca Southwest and Duke Catering, this would have not been possible and we appreciate their commitment to this special project.
Please remember that you can also help the kids at the centre, whether it is with used children's clothes, games or toys: every little thing helps. Feel free to drop it off at our Inca, Santa Maria or Llucmajor offices and we will happily take it to the centre.
