Winter activities in Mallorca North

With daytime temperatures in Mallorca reaching highs of 17 degrees, there’s no shortage of things to do in Mallorca’s northern region during December and January. Frosts are rare as the wettest months have passed and, while the days are short, many of them will bring blue, cloudless skies.

Those keen to make the most of the sunshine have a myriad of things to do in and around Pollensa and Alcudia. Here, the team from Engel & Völkers Mallorca North make their top recommendations:

Golf: Pollensa Golf is a 9-hole course and widely regarded as one of the most picturesque in Mallorca, offering expansive views over the Bay of Pollensa. Another option is Alcanada Golf, which enjoys another spectacular setting just outside the town of Alcudia.

Cycling: From gentle rides along the country roads that criss-cross through farmland to more challenging routes heading up into the mountains, there’s something suitable for every type of cyclist. Read about Mallorca North’s world-famous Sa Calobra cycle route here.

Walking & hiking: Lying in the foothills of the Tramuntana range, Pollensa offers some spectacular opportunities to take on challenging hikes such as the Ruta de Piedra Seca which runs through the mountains all the way down to Andratx in the south-west of the island. Easier and shorter walks can be enjoyed on the Formentor and Alcudia headlands, such as the Ermita de la Victoria Coll Baix loop. Read about more hiking routes in Mallorca North here.

Sailing: While the summer months are a more popular time to take to the sea, there are opportunities to enjoy day sails from both Puerto Alcudia and Puerto Pollensa during December and January. Local sights: Don’t miss out on a less crowded visit to the Cuevas de Campanet filled with impressive stalagmites and stalactites and look out for a local natural phenomenon nearby at Ses Fonts Ufanes. After the heavy rains in autumn and winter, the underground reservoirs in the area fill up until the water reaches the surface and the natural springs start to bubble.

Spa: For those in search of a more relaxing time, the spa at the Son Brull hotel is not to be missed. Unique to the island, the products used during the treatments are made by hand using local ingredients such as flor de sal, almond oil and olive oil.

Fiestas: The calendar of local village festivals and fiestas never ceases in Mallorca North. Highlights of the winter months include the arrival of the Reyes Magos in both Puerto Pollensa and Puerto Alcudia and the Festival of San Antonio.
